Inside the Experience
Welcome to Pete's Tavern, a cherished establishment nestled in the heart of Manhattan, where history meets hospitality. Known as one of the oldest bars in the city, this iconic tavern boasts an ambiance steeped in charm and character that echoes the stories of its past. Patrons rave about the "old school old time old world charm," with many enjoying a cozy meal at the famous O'Henry's booth, which has seen countless visitors.
What makes Pete's Tavern truly special is not just its vintage decor and historical significance, but the lively atmosphere that fills the room. Customers often remark on the exceptional service, where the staff—ranging from friendly waiters to attentive management—enhance the dining experience at every turn. A guest named Saul Roman eloquently noted, "The food was excellent, the beer was top notch," highlighting the menu that offers solid pub fare alongside a delightful selection of beverages.
While the menu may not boast five-star elegance, it emphasizes reliability with offerings like boneless wings smothered in house-made buffalo sauce, shepherd's pie, and, of course, classic favorites like truffle fries. Bill Keough fondly recalls utilizing the tavern's affordable Happy Hour deals, demonstrating that you can enjoy great food and drinks without breaking the bank. The cocktails are generous, perfect for toasting the vibrant energy that every visit to Pete's Tavern promises.
Whether you're sitting indoors, surrounded by the historical decor and literary roots, or enjoying the outdoor seating that brings the festive vibe to life, each moment spent here is worthwhile. As Lyuba Lyubov aptly puts it, it is "worth a visit" to absorb the essence of New York's rich past while savoring its present. Should you find yourself wandering the streets of Gramercy Park or heading towards Union Square, don’t miss this gem where every dish, every drink, and every detail pays homage to the true spirit of a classic New York tavern.
“ It has old school old time old world charm. The atmosphere is great service was exceptional. We sat at the O'Henry's booth! ”
“ Amazing experience from the waiters to the GM, the food was excellent, the beer was top notch, a great atmosphere of what a tavern is with lots of picture of famous people attending such a great tavern. If i come back to NY i would definitely eat again in Pete's Tavern. ”
“ Pete’s is a historical gem! We’ve visited before at different times, taken advantage of very affordable Happy Hour deals as well as the regular menu. Cocktails are quite ample for the price. Food is nothing elevated but solid pub fare reliables. Today the place was swamped mid-afternoon but we secured a table immediately, albeit with the warning that food was going to take 45 minutes. Drinks came right away with bread while we waited. Food actually took about 50-55 minutes but we were comped a second round of drinks. The right service staff decision made without us asking for anything. The whole staff was personable, cool and competent even though they were being slammed. Keep up the great work, Pete’s. ”
“ Walking up 18th St towards Union Square found this awesome place, Pete’s Tavern. One of the coolest places I have ever just walked up on in NYC. The food was good and so was the service. We ate inside in one of the cozy booths but they also have outdoor seating. ”
“ I went here one evening a week before Christmas 2024. It was beautifully set up- inside as well as outside. I hope the videos I upload do it justice. It felt so festive! I just enjoyed a lovely lager and some truffle fries - basic stuff but good. I was also pretty full from other meals I was eating when in NYC. Majorly went here for the vibes and those did not disappoint. Great service, good vibe! Shall come back to try more food. P.S. Make a reservation if you can. We walked in and got lucky with a table as it seemed like a busy time. ”
